About the Author

Carter Stanfield grew up in the air conditioning business. His family still owns and operates Stanfield Air Systems in Athens, Georgia. He has taught Air Conditioning Technology at Athens Technical College for over 40 years. He writes the blog hvacrfundamentals and is co-author of Fundamentals of HVACR, published by Pearson. Mr. Stanfield’s industry credentials include RSES CMS, NATE Certification, and a state of Georgia unrestricted Conditioned Air Contracting License. He earned a BS Ed Degree in Technical Education from the University of Georgia, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Mr. Stanfield is a frequent guest speaker at regional and national conventions for HVACR educators. David Skaves, P.E., has been a faculty member at the Maine Maritime Academy since 1986 and received the Teaching Excellence award at the college in 2006. His career background includes employment as a marine engineer on supertankers in the merchant marine, a production planner at Maine’s Bath Iron Works Shipbuilding, and an engineering consultant for combined cycle power plant performance testing throughout the United States as well as in Mexico and South America. In addition to his MBA from the University of Maine at Orono, Professor Skaves is a registered professional engineer, licensed first-class stationary engineer, and licensed marine chief engineer. I love this book. I bought it when I started class on HVAC-R and eventually this book became the reference for my employer. This book is the encyclopedia for HVACR. With this book I was able to fully understand concepts in the refrigeration world and this book is considered "the bible" to some in the industry. Just be prepared to read, it's thick and detailed.

one of my favorite hvac books and i have a lot of hvac books. it really covers a lot broad variety of basics and really explains it well. its an excellent book for intro and experienced engineers and technicians.

even though they have moved on to the third edition, this second edition I received was as near to new as I've ever seen a used book. As a bonus,for my purposes, the 2nd edition was as good as the 3rd.

its almost falling apart but its still holding after 11 months.

It's the same book as the second edition, the content and pictures have been rearranged. Better off with 2nd edition.

If you are a technician who wants to get better out in the field then this is the book for you. Oh yes there are other text books out there, I have read most of them and I can tell you that this book offers more practical knowledge with a blend of theory than any other book I have ever read on HVAC.

Rex Miller was a Professor of Industrial Technology at The State University of New York, College at Buffalo for more than 35 years. He has taught at the technical school, high school, and college level for more than 40 years. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 textbooks ranging from electronics through carpentry and sheet metal work. He has contributed more than 50 magazine articles over the years to technical publications. He is also the author of seven Civil War regimental histories.

I read quite a few "For dummies" books and unfortunately this has been one of the most disappointing ones.I expected that after reading the book I would have a basic understanding on how a drone works, an insight on its components, dynamics and the general knowledge on how to operate a drone at a basic level or maybe even how to proceed in case I would like to build my own.Unfortunately I found none of the above.What was most irritating is how little there is actually on drones. Most of the book is about how to shop or behave on the internet, basic and watered down introductions on related consumer electronics (cameras, editing software etc..) and somewhat product specific reviews that (naturally) are already outdated. All this might be useful advice to anyone who is a dummy about most of contemporary consumer electronics, yet it should not become the main point of a volume that is supposed to speak about drones.Each section starts with way too long introductions, which seam to have the only function to add text.Once all such "bloatware" we are left with about 30% of drone specific text, which is mainly an edited extract from various user manuals, as the book only speaks about ready-to-fly platforms, basically becoming a purchasing guide for products that are already outdated.The same obsolescence issue affects the legal section: it should be updated ASAP, as with recent regulation changes readers might get into trouble.The book often tells you about what you should pay attention to, without actually telling you how you are supposed to do it.Is it all bad? Off course it isn't! Among all the bloatware, incorrect phrases ("such as high rate of speed" to indicate speed) and repetitions there is plenty of good advice for starters, especially in the safety section. Nevertheless when purchasing a book I expect to receive more structured information than what I can receive by a 10 min. google search. Personally I found more and better structured information on http://myfirstdrone.com/ than in this volume.

Probably the worst cobbled together anything for dummies. It's certainly not current. It reads like somebody grabbed a bunch of different subjects and threw them together randomly. Multiple sections with repeat text/pictures, no real cohesive thought and the picture quality is absurdly awful! Even my drone instructor admits that the book is dreadful! I cannot believe that some of the folks who rated this book as 4 or 5 were even look at the same volume. Deserves less than a 1.

This book is totally obsolete, There are no useful sections. If you have a newer DJI drone this book will not help you in any way.

This book predates the new FAA 14 CFR Part 107 regulations.It provides good background and useful tips for buying and operating a drone. But the drone models that is discusses are somewhat dated and much of the discussion about regulations are no longer current.; but it does highlight some ideas for best practice.

This is a book lacking in substance. I read it through and felt I learned almost nothing about drones or anything else.

This book is seriously out of date and should be revised to reflect the current FAA rules and more recent drone models.

I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my 1 year old. It's a cute concept but the story is generic and uninteresting. I'm a firm believer that a book for little kids should be fun and engaging, and this series is deadly dull to read aloud.

cute pictures, more nice and detailed than expected, my son loves it (well he loves to chew it on, hahaha)

Cute pictures, easy for my toddler granddaughter to folliw. She loves it. Sturdy construction ideal for little hands to turn pages to view the duckling puctures.

This book is small so it is easy for my baby to carry around and fits nicely into his diaper bag for when we are on the go!

Cutest books! The pages are beautifuly done!

The duck is very cute. But the words are tiny on the page, and there's 3 long sentences, too complex for our 2 yr olds. They lose interest quickly and are back to running around before the story is finished. (They can sit through Goodnight Moon as a comparison for you.)

This book is adorable and has very realistic pictures of a mama mallard duck and her babies. The book is sturdy and hard to damage, which is important with a little one!

I really was so excited to finally be getting a encyclopedia that I could reference buttons with. I'm 58 years old and have been collecting buttons since I was 10 my grandmother got me interested and that's how I started collecting. So when I decided to order the book I must have miss read but I thought it had colored pictures of all buttons. My problem with the book is no color pictures and there was absolutely no way to make out detail with so many buttons together and so small. Most of the buttons are buttons that the average person will never see or own. What happened to showing a little of everything like a encyclopedia is supposed to ???My final comment dissapointed is an understatment. This is no encyclopedia it doesnt even illustrate in color. Don't spend almost $30 on this you'll be throwing money away. Would I buy from anymore books that this author wrote NO!!!!!!!!

This book give descriptions of all types of buttons along with a short history of each type, and it gives current price values to a large variety of buttons! My wife and I had recently found some ornate and many shell buttons in a nineteenth century ghost town and even though there aren't any photographs of the actual buttons we found, we were able to find more on the history of each button, as well as an approximate value of each one. This book is full of mostly black and white photographs of buttons, with a few in color, and has been helpful to us beginner collectors, and I believe it would also be very helpful to people who have been collecting for years! I highly recommend this book to both experienced and beginner collectors alike!

I am so impressed with this book, anyone that is collecting or studying buttons will love this book. I study it as I sort through my Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers buttons, trying to make lovely items for my Grandchildren and Daughters, I give a history with each item of the button or buttons that are on the garmet. This books gives me so much additional information for the family to carry on from generation to generation.

Although this book is considered "the Bible" on button collecting books, I was somewhat disappointed in it. There were very few color pictures, and the black and white photos were small. Somewhat cut and dry in text, but I've discovered that such books are hard to find, and this was the most extensive one I came across.

A good book with lots of pictures but unfortunately most are in black and white. Still, a decent book with good information. Prices are out of date of course because they are from 2006.

One of the standard resources for collectors. I found one or two errors (for instance, it claims that horsehair buttons were only used on upholstery, when they were in fact used on clothing in the early 18th century). Alphabetic arrangement makes it easy to locate information.

The pictures are in black & white making it too difficult to compare with the buttons I'm trying to research. Extremely unhappy with this purchase. Returning the same day it arrived :(
