Honestly, I couldn't imagine many lunches past a salad with some meat on keto but Lunch in Five gave me a ton of options! My favorite is the cauli-stir fry. Really simple and tasty. The casseroles are great too since you make a bunch of servings and take them with you to work. Great little cookbook series!

These recipes are great for bringing to work. I sometimes double the recipes to make lunch for my husband too and he says he loves them, which is great because he was so resistant to getting on a low carb diet with me.

I love this book series. When embarking on a way of eating that is significantly different from what you are used to, it is such a relief to have quick and easy guides that cover all meals for a whole month's worth of eating. Makes the transition super easy.

I LOVE this cookbook! I was tired of Pinterest recipes - loaded with expensive and hard to find ingredients along with ambiguous instructions. These recipes are simple, inexpensive AND yummy.

This was kind of a waste. First, too many of these recipes won't pack well (for example, there are two different egg "crepe" recipes with hot fillings that would be disgustingly rubbery if you let them sit in your rubbermaid until lunchtime, then tried to heat in the office microwave). Second, the book is more a list of recipe ideas. With only five ingredients, they had to leave off all the spices that would create the flavor profile they're going for (seriously, curry recipes with no spices?). If you're a decent cook, you could fill in the blanks and make the recipes work, but at that point, you're as well off searching keto and low-carb blogs for ideas.

Love this book new to keto and this book is perfect for me because of the ease of the 5 ingredients also provides lost of good info on the keto diet love this also if u have any questions it has a link to the authors and u can email them with questions I got a quick response to help me out with my question recommending it 100% going to look into buying the dessert book !

The food is surprisingly tasty and quick to make I do tweak mine's a tiny bit by adding half a cup of onions but besides that I'm loving it and it has allowed me to really stay on track with Keto.

Great recipes, but make sure you calculate your own nutritional values. I have found the values stated in the book to be significantly off from my own calculations.

I did not realize how bad schools/teachers are until 6th grade when, at Math League meets, none of the problems matched what was learned in school. This book pointed out that pre-algebra concepts have been skipped since 4th grade. Apparently our teachers are more comfortable with arts and crafts than with teaching math. This books was great in catching up with what is expected in 6th grade. It is mostly pre-algebra/algebra, but it also has a bit of geometry. Each page has a brief example, it works better if a parent is available to give a more extensive explanation, or additional examples.

This book is a really interesting collection of surprisingly intimate stories. I never realized how much one object can say about who a person is, and about what they value most. The stories are at the same time heartwarming and bittersweet. While most of the stories resonate on some level, I found myself most drawn to the ones told by the “regular” folks whose names are unfamiliar to me.It is an easy book to read, but a hard one to put down. I found myself reading “just one more story” until I had finished them all. It made me think about what I cherish, why, and what that tells the world about me.

Great read demonstrating what people truly value is what connects them with their past, their joys, and accomplishments. For me a nice respite from a world that seems to increasingly focus on the material and a reminder of what truly matters.

This book is short, sweet, and deeply heartfelt. I laughed and cried several times; it perfectly illustrates how much meaning an object can have in someone’s life. I highly recommend it if you want your heart strings tugged.P.S. My object would be the first edition Harry Potter books I own.

I love books that you can pick up, flip to a page and receive an instant mini-story, a window into a life, a love. What We Keep is a direct communication from someone's core to yours - a confession of what's most important, most cherished, most meaningful. From Melinda Gates (an APPLE computer!!! Heresy!) to Hasan Minhaj and Mark Cuban, this really is a delightful and engaging book you'll want to keep around at home or in the office - it definitely gets you thinking, too, about the things, the mementos we all keep, where they are now, and what they still mean. LOVE this book. Then again, I like slinkys, too ;)

I'm not all the way through this yet, but the stories! I find myself stopping whomever I am sitting near when I'm reading it and reading a page out loud to them. Bill and Naomi had a great idea and followed through with a really interesting collection of stories. It makes you think about what's important!

Interesting perspectives on emotional connection to inanimate objects. This gave me a new appreciation for the things that are special to me, and provided me with the realization that I surround myself with things that are not.

Bill Shapiro's and Naomi Wax's marvelous "What We Keep" explores the inanimate objects we value that animate our spirits. It offers telling glimpses into the human condition by shining a light on the seemingly mundane objects people cherish: a homeless man's rock that keeps him grounded amid a transitory life; a teenager's game puzzle that helps him stay connected to his late mother; a comic book cover drawn by an investment manager when he was young and aspired to a creative life far removed from his current occupation. Oh. My. God. I laughed until I cried. Then I laughed some more. I laughed until my ribs were sore. These were guffaws and giggles and the silent laugh where you can't catch your breath, but you keep laughing nonetheless even as you wipe the tears streaming down your face. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much.Deception in Darkness is my favorite of the In Darkness series. The author grabs the reader and pulls them along for this suspenseful and hilarious ride. And the characters are so well written and interesting that I was sorry when the book was over.Felix. Wow. I could say so much about Felix but I won't. Suffice it to say that he is the best comedic character that I have ever read (he puts me in mind of Robin Williams with his irreverence and over the top dialogue). And he is so much more than comic relief. His character is well rounded, and I have fallen head over heels in love with him.Lane is perfect for this little guy, and his interactions with Felix show his devotion.While this storyline isn’t as intense as was the case in the last book, it is exciting and believable and drew me along with the guys as they worked to solve this latest mystery.The secondary characters are supportive of the storyline and the main characters,and I was pleasantly surprised by the actions of some of them.I will be rereading this entire series again.I look forward to more from this author.

I adore this series. Really good writing, delightful characters, and lots and lots of laugh-out-loud fun! I sincerely hope this totally enjoyable series continues for a long time.

I loved the first two books in this series and this one is even better. I laughed out loud reading it, couldn't stop reading from start to finish. I love Felix and Lane.

This book is laugh out loud funny all the way through. Just as good as book 1 and 2 in the series. Definitely will be looking for more by this author.

I am absolutely in love with this series! I laughed so much that the cats stared at me like I was crazy, and my daughter left the room because I was annoying her with my happiness.I just adore Felix's snarky comments and horrible jokes. And Lane's dry responses are priceless. The two of them are so funny together, yet the love between them is evident throughout the book. There is even one sexy scene when they get a little sentimental. Of course, we can't forget the *slight spoiler* strip tease which totally balances the romantic scene out.A new character is introduced in this story, Calyn, or Cal. We don't learn much about his personal history, except for a few things toward the end of the story. I look forward to reading his book in the future.Once again, Lane and Felix get involved with a convoluted situation that involves breaking into police stations, mansions, and exclusive clubs. Of course, the thrill of it all turns Lane on, which just turns Felix into an excited little man. The stealing of anything Felix can get his hands on also makes it well worth his while. Felix even attempts to dance! And it would not be a true In Darkness story if Felix did not acquire a new pet 😉.The playful banter, the trouble they get into, and the love that is evident between them is what makes these books one of my favorite series in a long time. I cannot wait for this to come out in audio. I'm not sure which is more hilarious!Happy reading!* I received an ARC of this book. *

This one was almost on par with book two but I didn’t laugh quite as much. Felix is like gay Don Rickles, insult comedian, far more annoying and childish than he is funny. The plot was kind of clever but the actions from Lane and Tom, supposedly police officers, reached ridiculous heights. And the same absurd shenanigans from Lane, Felix and assorted sidekicks went on for too long. I was losing interest at points. It’s one non-stop action scene after another and I’m sure many people will find it entertaining but I prefer more subtle, witty banter to the in-your-face type, so your mileage on this vehicle for humor may vary.*An ARC was provided by the author, publisher or a promotional service and I have chosen to publish a fair and honest review*

I loved this book. It was funny, had a brilliant plot, and two of my favorite men were back with a vengeance. After the events of the second book, Lane and Felix are trying the normal life thing one more time. Of course, it doesn't last long before they're sucked into a deceivingly simple plan.When Lane and Felix bargain to get back the watch they stole in book two things get away from them, and quickly. with every turn, there are more questions than answers and the only thing Lane and Felix are sure of is that they can't trust anyone but each other.Felix's humor is top notch. He really is like a child sometimes, but it's what makes him lovable.Lane is as fierce and protective as ever. He just wants to love Felix, and have something to do besides be his precinct's blind guy.These two are famous for getting themselves into dangerous situations. They're also good at getting themselves out of them. Better now, than they were in the other books. Experience, trust, love, and instinct has honed in their skills. Just not enough to not get caught in the things they get caught in, obviously.With a new band of friends, Lane and Felix discover the truth and Felix steals a new pet, much to Lane's horror.I could read these two all day. I hope they get more books, especially with the new adventure they take on at the end of this one.

A moving portrayal of the before and after of 9/11 and how it affects two teens and their families. Alia is a Muslim teen trying to break free of her parents’ wishes. She ends up at her father’s workplace in the Twin Towers on Sept 11, 2001. Jesse McLaurin is a teenager who lost her brother in the 9/11 tragedy. Jesse’s family is now broken and silent about the event. Alternating narratives tell how the past informs the present, and how grief and memory merge and linger.Warning to readers: this is a slow read at the beginning. It took almost 35% before the action really built. And it’s somber, as befits the topic. But the thing is, even though this isn’t an easy read, I think it’s one worth reading, for a few reasons:1) I’ve never read a book that tries to portray what happened on 9/11 to people who were in the Towers. I felt this was done accurately, honestly, and respectfully for a teen audience.2) The portrayal of grief, trauma, and a family still broken by what happened that day was really well done as well, showing the after effects of 9/11, even 15 years later.3) This book tackles racial issues, hatred, prejudice, and grief in a way that is really compassionate and comprehensible.If I have qualms, they are that I just didn’t fully connect with either Alia or Jesse. I think the concept of the book overcame the actual characterization of them. That said, I’m glad I read All We Have Left. It showed such a variety of perspectives on grief and trauma, and how to articulate and move past them. It definitely made me think about how we’ve changed as people and as a world after 9/11 .Teachers, this is one for the school library and the classroom, and it’s a great one to spark discussion.

GRADE: BOn September 11, 2001 Alia skips school to see her father at work in The World Trade Centers. In 2016 Jesse must perform community service at a Muslim Peace Center after being caught making anti Islamic graffiti. Their stories intersect in surprising ways.The first quarter of ALL WE HAVE LEFT started slowly, but the pace picked up and near the end I almost felt like I was reading a thriller, eager to discover if Alia survived. Wendy Mills did phenomenal research into 9/11 and the Muslim community, not painting the Islamic characters with a broad brush. Each had unique personalities and approaches to their faith. Some wore hijabs, others did not.Mills created a diverse cast of minor character with different personalities and beliefs. While ALL WE HAVE LEFT is an issues book about prejudice, I never felt that Mills was heavy handed in her message of the complexities of hate. There were no easy answers and no one character had the complete moral high ground.The intersection between past and present, Alia's and Jesse's stories, though mostly indirect, unfolded organically without artificial coincidences.ALL WE HAVE LEFT is a timely story, and Islamic prejudice is still prominent in the USA. I think this novel would be great reading for middle or high school students.

Believe in love, believe in humanity, believe in the idea that someone, somewhere, out there...gets it.Wendy Mills gets it. She just gets it.I think it is very brave of her to venture into writing a book like this that is extremely thought-provoking and deals with many controversial and difficult issues. She handles it really well though, and with the utmost respect to all sides and parties involved. Not to mention that her prose is beautiful. She succeeds in being poignant, witty, creative, and honest all at once, displaying a writing skill that leaves you green with envy.Every interaction, every moment, every emotion, every action was on point. The struggles, emotionally, physically and most importantly, spiritually, were incredibly relatable. As a teenager, as a mother, as a female, as a Muslim, as an Arab, Mills was able to tap into every aspect in ways that no other author, especially a White American (and I say this with so much respect for her), was able to. I have never before read a book about a Muslim girl, her struggles and 9/11 that was so honest and true to our experiences as Muslim girls. It is honest and raw, and many people might find that unacceptable, or might have an issue with how some experiences were related, but all I have to say to that is: you can live in denial all you want, but those are real experiences that even Muslims (both guys and girls) go through and struggle with. No one is perfect, and this is your reality check.All We Have Left tells the story of two coming-of-age girls, one in the present, the other in the past. It talks about their experiences with 9/11, one right in the midst of it, the other many years later and the affect it's had (and still has) on her family.You always hear about the world being divided into before 9/11 and after 9/11, and this book portrays those two timelines perfectly. On one end of the spectrum you have Alia, who rushes to catch her dad at his office before going to school because she needs him to sign a slip of paper. Her father works at the World Trade Centre, and on that morning, when she gets in the elevator with a boy called Travis, the elevator stops working, and they get stuck inside for a while. What happens next is gut-wrenching, terrifying and will leave you sitting at the edge of your seats.On the other end of the spectrum is Jesse, a sixteen-year-old troubled girl, who had lost her older brother almost fifteen years ago at the September 11 attacks, and although she barely remembers him, but his ghost and presence had continued to haunt her family. His death changed her parents, split her family apart, and had a direct effect to the person she grew up to be. So many details about her brother's death remain a mystery to her, the reason he was in the towers at the time of the attacks is unknown to her family, and they've always refused to speak to anyone publicly about it. Instead, her mother keeps herself busy with work and her father spends his time watching the news and raging at the Muslim terrorists. Jesse grew up in an extremely racist household. She grew up listening to her father bad mouthing every Muslim, and spouting so much hate towards them, wishing them dead or worse. She grew up grieving for a brother she never knew, she grew up with an identity that was thrown at her - the girl whose brother died tragically in 9/11 - and she grew up blaming all Muslims for the death of her 18 year old brother.Not surprising then when Jesse gets involved with a bunch of graffiti artists who put out anti-Muslim messages around town. Except, with Jesse's bad luck, she ends up getting caught and having to do community service at a Muslim Peace Center. This experience makes her question everything she knew and thought of them and allows her to learn more about herself. It also brings up questions of her brother, and makes her curious to find out what really happened to him that day.As she delves into the past, we get both stories told simultaneously, one from Alia's perspective and the other from Jesse's. As the past and the present gently collide and meet in the middle, we watch as the two girls' worlds interweave together so it all makes sense, and balances out perfectly, all while breaking our hearts.At one point, I could feel myself breath heavy, like a weight was sitting on my chest, and I needed to thrash and scream to get it off me. It's that kind of book, with that kind of emotion.I have so much respect for Mills, for how she handled the stories and events and for not sugarcoating any of it. I loved the character development of both girls. Jesse's character development spanned a longer period of time, whereas Alia's character development spanned the course of a few hours - and that alone, is an impressive feat. I also loved all the secondary characters and the role they played in the development of our protagonists.This book is a keeper. It's a lesson. Its one for the teachers at schools. It's one for the parents at home.This book is important.

3.5 starsis an intensely moving tale that shows how perspective and misconceptions shape our understanding of history, even modern history.It is very difficult to like Jessie and her transformation throughout the book is remarkable and perfectly timed for the crossroads we find ourselves staring at, as a nation.There are so many poetic moments that made me really appreciate the writing of this text, but my favorite moment was this, "In my happiest times, like when I held my baby daughter for the first time, I feel Travis there. He is there in the unfinished part of my childhood, in the cocky smile of a young teenage boy I see on the subway. He is there in the potential of my daughter who would not be here today if it weren’t for a shaggy-haired boy who died too soon."
