*** 3.5 stars ***Before I start I would like to say that I appreciate that this author took on such a huge topic that many refuse to talk about. Hell most people don't even what to acknowledge that mental illness exist much less talk about it. As a suffer of mental illness I appreciate the author bringing this topic to some form of light. People can't see the symptoms of mental illness so therefore they don't believe it exists. An invisible illness. Thanks so much for broaching it.That being said I enjoyed this book. The reason for my four star rating is because I thought the word cu** was used far too much. I mean come on there are other words that can be used. I mean cu** is fine at times just not all the freaking time. It literally was the only word used. I think that Brendon and Kaylee could have been an explosive couple but there was just something lacking. Maybe because Kaylee was so naive and Brendon was a bit of a coward. He did everything he could to not be with Kaylee while she just kept hanging onto anything he gave her. I was so over him by the time they finally got together. Kaylee was a extremely young and untouched and just hopped into the whole BDSM thing like she had always been doing it. I was not expecting this book to be about BDSM in the bedroom. I don't normally prefer it - but Kaylee knew next to nothing and it wasn't really believable. As much as I am grateful to the author for bringing mental illness into the spotlight I feel that the way Kaylee's was approached and played out was a bit unrealistic. I literally live with mine everyday and it's just not the way the author described it. The side characters were good and added a lot to the story. However the book was slow to get going and even then it was still slow at times. I almost didn't finish it because it just kept going and going without much happening. This book was good but it had the potential to be so much more. Which is always disappointing. I liked it enough that I will eventually check out the other books in this series.

I liked Tempting better than Dangerous Kiss, which was included when I downloaded. Brendon and Kaylee had great chemistry, and each had to fight against themselves at times to make it work. I could relate to what Kaylee was grappling with, feeling broken and fighting depression. Dangerous Kiss was too repetitious for me. I had to force myself to finish the story. Ethan and Vi are okay characters, but they deserved to be miserable at times because they brought it on themselves.Overall, both stories need some light proofreading. It is annoying and interrupts the story. The first couple it's easy to overlook, but more than that is frustrating. Some examples: "chocking" when it should be choking, "titled" when it should be tilted, no punctuation at the end of a sentence, "You're got this, Vi" when it should be You've, and etc.

It took me a long time to finish this book. I felt bored alot of the time. There were alot of almost pointless conversations that got boring quickly. Also, the style of writing is weird to me. Alot of repetitive phrases and words. And I mean repetitive! It didnt flow to me like it should have. The plot was kinda boring and of course had to be drawn out to try to make readers think it's interesting. I felt like an adolescent wrote this book. Totally not worth the 4 bucks. There just isnt much to offer with this book. I expected alot more. It was a shallow read with not so interesting characters. The most interesting parts are the sex scenes, which still arent that great.

As always, I loved this story by Crystal Kaswell. This is the story of an older brother who is in "lust" with his younger sister's best friend. Brendon is a caring, protective older brother who has guardianship over his sister since their parents died. He struggles with his desire for Kaylee and his feelings that he is not "good enough" for her. The two are forced into close quarters and their relationship and feelings can no longer be denied. This was a wonderfully developed story with in depth/slightly damanaged characters and a HEA. Highly recommend this read! "I received an advanced copy of this manuscript and am voluntarily leaving an honest review."

This one is a little slow in the beginning. I didn’t like how Kaylees parents didn’t involve her in what was going on. Especially in the beginning when they were moving across the country. And throughout the book dealing with her grandmothers condition. She is definitely a very young and naive 18 year old but I feel like she should have been given the facts. I adore Brendon and how he tries his best to do the thing (at least what he thinks is the right thing). The friends are awesome and very supportive of them being together and not one bit shy of letting their feelings be known. Great beginning to this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Brendon and Kaylee's story. A fantastic storyline with a few twist and turns that had me on the edge of my seat and unable to put my kindle down until the very end. The characters are hilarious, witty, outspoken and outlandish.Katee has had a crush on her best friends brother of ever and only hopes and prays he would look at her as an adult since she is now 18 years old. Yes, she is aware of the age difference and the fact that her parents left her in his care, but she just can not help the way she feels about him. But unbeknownst to her, Brendon is crushing on her as well and is doing everything possible to bury his feelings for her. When you have nosy co-workers that are family as well its kind of hard to hide certain things from them and when they are aware, they never hesitate to throw it in your face at the most inopportune time (but they mean well). Although their relationship is filled of secrets, hurts and a lot of angst, the two together makes each other happy and tends to quiet their darker thoughts. Their sexcapades are raw with a bit of kink and very intense.P. S. Can't wait to start Walker's story.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*This novel grabs the reader right from the start: "Not every thirteen-year-old girl is accused of murder, brought to trial, and found guilty. But I was just such a girl..." Starting with the explanation that Charlotte is supposed to be traveling across the Atlantic from England to America with two other families, because her own family went ahead without her and left her to finish out her year at boarding school, we quickly learn that the other families are not coming. Charlotte will take the journey alone, the sole passenger and the sole female among the crew of men. She befriends the cook, Zachariah, who foreshadows that they will become friends because of all that they have in common: "Miss Doyle is so young! I am so old! Surely there is something similar in that. And you, the sole girl, and I, the one black, are special on this ship. In short, we begin with two things in common, enough to begin a friendship." Charlotte learns that the crew is intent on mutiny against Captain Jaggery, and that's when things start to make sense. The stowaway. The families who made the last-minute decision not to take this ship. The dirk (small knife) given to her by Zachariah. And then the first mate is murdered during a storm, and Charlotte is accused and found guilty of the crime.I love Charlotte's relationship with Zachariah. I can see Hollywood making this movie with Morgan Freeman as Zachariah (indeed, there was a movie in the early stages at one point and he was attached to play the role). I love that Captain Jaggery, who acts most civilized, turns out to be the monster -- and I love the imagery of his quarters, at first perfect and luxe, and then broken and battered after the storm in a way that mirrors how Charlotte's impression of him has changed. I love that Charlotte grows from a prim and proper girl into a young woman with such courage in her convictions that she can run away from home at the end of the book to return to her family aboard the Seahawk.Charlotte Doyle is a strong heroine for young girls. I read this book when it was first published, when I was 8 years old, and I have reread it many times since then. It's my favorite book, so much so that I named my daughter Charlotte, and I used a line from this book as my senior quote in my high school yearbook. I leave you with this line, Zachariah's wisdom: "A sailor chooses the wind that takes the ship from a safe port. Ah, yes, but once you're abroad, as you have seen, winds have a mind of their own. Be careful, Charlotte, careful of the wind you choose."

I loved this book when I was in middle and high school. I wanted to read it again. I actually still owned a copy of it. With my current book challenges, I had the perfect reason to read it again. It did not disappoint. Unlike many stories, this book was just as good as it had been when I read it as a teen. The story follows young Charlotte Doyle. She is scheduled to travel on a merchant ship back home to Rhode Island from England. There is supposed to be two other families on board, but they fail to show. As soon as she boards, the young lady knows there is something amiss. Vague warnings and unusual occurrences start the warning bells buzzing in her head. After a failed attempted mutiny, Charlotte joins the sailors. She becomes one of the crew, working along side them from dawn to midnight, taring the deck and taking a watch. Danger from both human and ship lead to a very gripping tale on the sea. Every day, Charlotte adds some to her journal, leaving evidence of the crimes committed on board.I love this book. It is fascinating to watch Charlotte grow from a young, sheltered girl to a hardworking, independent young lady. You learn a lot about what the crew goes through on a long voyage, as well as the differences in social classes that were prevalent at the time. It would be a great book for a tween/teen girl. Also, anyone who wants to learn some basics about old-time sea faring would like this book. It is an easy read, but keeps you engaged throughout. It actually has a lot of suspense for a young adult book (at least those I read when I was younger, I don’t know about today’s books). It is simply a great book.

This book kept me, a 40-something year old temporarily retired school teacher turned homeschool mom- on the edge of my seat. I read it bc my daughter is reading it as school work. I would read ahead of her so I could keep up with comprehension and found myself telling her, "You won't believe what's going to happen! It's crazy!" At one point I even walked into her room one evening sobbing and told her, in jest of course, that she couldn't read it anymore bc it's too sad! This was just SUCH a great book...for anyone...of any age!!

My students were on the edge of their seats! This book says "young adult" on it, but it is appropriate for 4th to 5th grade, I believe--though there is plenty of danger and intrigue! Avi does not condescend to young people--and the material is engaging because of that. Intelligent, moving, heart-stopping, rewarding. One of the best novels I have read to keep students fascinated by reading. This one is definitely one of the best.

I am a sixth grade English teacher new to MCPS in Maryland. This book is one of three students may choose to explore the elements of adventure. For many students this is a first attempt at independent reading. It was somewhat successful. Next year I will plan literature circles to gauge understanding and practice summarizing.

I read this book to my 4th grade students when I was interning and I never miss an opportunity to share it with my students. I am now reading it with my own 2nd and 4th grade children. This book is great. Girls and boys alike will love this book. It brings out a sense of adventure in all of them. As an adult, I even enjoyed reading it! It's well written, exciting, and something even a child doesn't want to put down!

I have read this book twice now and enjoyed it just as much the second time. This is a great book for readers young and old.Charlotte leaves England a proper young lady of 13, bound for her home in America. The details of her adventure are historically accurate and enthralling. This is a true adventure story that is sure to take its place among many beloved classics.

Great book for middle schoolers, especially girls. The protagonist Charlotte challenges the times of what is expected of a girl. This book has suspense, murder, and adventure. You definetly root for Charlotte!

This applies solely to the Kindle edition... At $.99, not worth the price. I had to give it one star, no stars is not accepted...The Kindle edition is apparently a 100% unedited / unreviewed scan of the book. The result of the 'character recognition' is slightly above random garbage, an excerpt as it appears in the Kindle edition on 2/11/2015: There are strong grounds, Marsden says, for belieTjlng that this date of 1250, although found in all the editions, is incorrect. If, like myself, you unfortunately bought this trash, get a refund from Amazon.

I first read this book when a teacher lent it to me in 7th grade, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was fascinating to read his adventures. As he traveled along, he explained each town he went to, and the explanations and information were interesting to read, seeing what each town was like, who they were under the rule of, and so on. The middle part of the book explains some of his journeys and events while he was visiting the Great Khan, and the latter parts explaining his trip back to Europe by sea. This edition also includes footnotes, which the edition my teacher had didn't, correcting some of the mistakes and giving more context to the text. The language and construction of the sentences are a bit more formal and declarative than works one would more commonly read today, but it wasn't difficult to understand or comprehend. The beginning of the book focuses on Marco's first adventure to China with his father and uncle, and overall, the entire beginning was a bit hard to get through, but once you get past it, it becomes more enjoyable. Overall, I would recommend this book.

This is a recent translation with the emphasis on a modern and readable style. Actually, even 18th century travel books written in English are usually quite readable, but at least until recently translations seemed to try to be unreadable - sort of "maybe you get to read this, but by heck you're not going to enjoy it". But this is a real pleasure to read, and comes across as the account of an engaging story teller with an enquiring and open mind.

Avoid this version. It is a cheap OCR scan of a printed book, and is barely readable for the horrendous level of uncorrected OCR mistakes.I mean, really bad. Some pages seem like every other word has random punctuation, random letters... Someone thought they could just OCR a public domain book, not bother to fix it up, and just sell the crappy OCR results.Zero stars

During the 13th Century the Mongols conquered most of the world from China to the Black Sea, providing a rare window of opportunity for people to travel from Europe to the Far East. A few adventurous Europeans accomplished it. One actually wrote about it: Marco Polo. Many years later, as he lay dying, family members and the attending priest begged Marco Polo to recant all the outrageous lies he had told about his incredible adventures. He refused, insisting that everything he said and wrote had all been absolutely true. The record Marco Polo left of his travels stirred the imaginations of Europeans about the possibilities that existed beyond their own limited horizons. Little more than two hundred years later they had established a trade route around Africa to reach the Far East, and attempts to do the same thing by sailing westward had revealed the existence of two hitherto entirely unknown American continents. The Travels of Marco Polo is one of a handful of books that can truly be said to have changed the world. This is not merely another adventure story, it is THE adventure story of all time! The Polos traveled thousands of miles through unknown and hostile territory in order to reach lands hitherto only vaguely rumored to exist. They accomplished it entirely on their own, and not at the head of a conquering army, but as simple commercial travelers. On the down side, this is not the most convenient of books to get through. A good map is an absolutely necessary accompaniment to the text. Even then, many of the names commonly applied today to many of the people and places alluded to in the text have been changed. In fact, some of the places mentioned in the text don't even exist any more. That is, of course, only to be expected after the lapse of more than 700 years. This edition is provided with copious footnotes which, like the map, are an absolute necessity. However, the editors might have made things a lot easier by altering the names of the people and places to their current spelling, and providing a map with locations plotted on it, without really altering the content of the text.

An interesting history of an era I knew virtually nothing about. The TV series Genghis Khan led me to read this book and I am pleased that I did. A travel log through an unknown world that existed seemingly in a different dimension! American's don't learn this history.

I have tried to read the first few pages of this book. There are formatting and spelling mistakes on every page. It is a horrible edition. Didn’t seem to have any links embedded to go directly to any chapter. It is not good. I should have looked into it a little more but I thought it couldn’t be that bad. I was wrong. Even at $2, it’s overpriced. Don’t get this edition.

I was expecting a little more narrative than just "I went here, the people were like this, then I went to the next place," but it was still fascinating to read his adventures.

All Things Beautiful: 31 Devotions for Single Moms, by Nikki Leonti Edgar

Review

From the time I was born, my mother always made sure I felt secure in life. Yes, times have been tough, but we’ve gotten through everything together. With every obstacle, there’s been a lesson learned. She has taught me how to get through life and stay strong. I couldn’t ask God for a better mom. This book is an authentic representation of who my mom is and what we’ve gone through. I hope it encourages all of the moms who read it and reminds them that they’re not alone.- Jaslyn Edgar, Nikki’s daughter This is a life-changing book for single moms. It is so hard juggling life, kids, and your own heart when you are single. So often we overlook ourselves in the process of taking care of everyone else. So take time to enjoy this thirty-one-day process of finding yourself and your purpose.- Kimberly Jones Pothier, author of Beautifully WholeEvery single mother feels like a ship alone at sea at times. Single mothers have become the modern-day widow, and the percentage rises every year. To be seen and to know they are not alone is a rare gift to any mother. Regardless how a woman finds herself in the role of single parenting, to feel she is not alone and can raise exceptional humans is all the encouragement she sometimes needs. Nikki offers encouragement and hope that all is not lost, and that heroes sometimes look like women who are both mother and father to their kids.- Rita Springer, songwriter, singer, leader

About the Author

Nikki Leonti Edgar was raised singing in church with her family, and her love of music was birthed through hearing the sounds of gospel choirs. She experienced the loss of a brother through cancer at a very young age, but she was inspired by her family’s continuous faith through that tragedy. Nikki had a successful Christian music career with number-one songs and charting album sales, but it wasn’t enough to fill the emptiness inside her. She found herself alone with two children by the time she was twenty-four years old, and soon moved to California and began to create a business for herself, all while being a single mom for nearly a decade. Throughout her time in California, she wrote music for television and film that spanned all genres. Her credits include multiple Disney and Dreamworks movies, lending vocals to over two hundred songs on Fox’s hit show Glee, as well as backing vocals for albums and live shows for artists such as Rod Stewart, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, CeeLo Green, Amy Grant, Selena Gomez, Faith Hill, Josh Groban, Pharrell Williams, Kirk Franklin, and many others. She has written songs for various artists, including Jessie J, Robin Thicke, Candice Glover, Rebecca Ferguson, Olivia Holt, and Dove Cameron. During her years of being single, she found strength in God and an incredible peace with being alone. At the end of 2013, Nikki was given God’s greatest gift through the love of the wonderful man who is now her husband, Ryan Edgar. He adopted her older daughter and has been very supportive of Nikki. They just completed their run on NBC’s hit show America’s Got Talent and made it to the semifinals. The family is actively involved in their church through worship arts and are pursuing various avenues of music through writing and live shows. They look forward to the adventure ahead and how God can use their stories to ignite hope in others.

I truly enjoyed this book. I think it’s something that every single mother can relate to and be encouraged. I like the way the author was very transparent in her writings. As I read, it was as if we were sitting together talking. I think any single mom who reads it will be touched.

“All things beautiful” is really a devotional that can put back hope and encouragement into a single parent’s life. I found her quick stories relatable, short simple and to the point. I like how it’s a way to get back into a habit of memorizing or reading a quick verse—-prayer is written down—-and her relatable story bit that is down right encouraging because sometimes we need to hear that nitty gritty story! For a short quick devotional that is something you can remember throughout the day—this is perfect.

Love Nikki’s authenticity in this book about what life is like being a single mom. She shares her real life stories and lessons she learned along the way. I loved reading her journey and the wealth of wisdom she shares with moms. I think any women could benefit from reading this devotional and be encouraged to hold on to hope and be confident to trust God in life!

This book was so amazing and totally encouraging! I recommend it for anyone needing a boost.

Neil Gaiman is, I think, the only author who writes short stories that I enjoy. Generally speaking, I prefer long fiction - the characterizations, build, settings, emotions are all better to me when they're well-developed, and for most authors that requires length. Not so, Mr. Gaiman. I have never read anything by him that I didn't enjoy - even the ones that aren't my favorite (I'm thinking the Sandman stuff, only because graphic novels aren't my cup of tea - I'm a word person, not a picture person) are still incredibly detailed and interesting... If you haven't picked him up before, definitely do - and if you want an introduction to him, his short stories are a great way to go. They can be a bit dark and exceedingly creepy - but they aren't all so, and are definitely worth keeping an extra light on even if that's not your usual type of story!

While I love Neil Gaiman's works, I've come to find I'm not particularly a fan of short stories. There are some in this anthology that I really enjoyed, others were so-so, and some I just didn't get. This anthology includes 31 short stories and a lovely introduction by Gaiman which briefly discusses the origins of each story and how they came to be, as well as an interesting story about the Mapmaker. Below is a list of the stories included in the anthology:A Study in EmeraldThe Fairy ReelOctober in the ChairThe Hidden ChamberForbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread DesireThe Flints of Memory LaneClosing TimeGoing WodwoBitter GroundsOther PeopleKeepsakes and TreasuresGood Boys Deserve FavorsThe Facts in the Case of the Departure of Miss FinchStrange Little GirlsHarlequin ValentineLocksThe Problem of SusanInstructionsHow Do You Think It Feels? My LifeFifteen Painted Cards from a Vampire TarotFeeders and EatersDiseasemaker’s CroupIn the EndGoliathPages from a Journal Found in a Shoebox Left in a Greyhound Bus Somewhere Between Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Louisville, KentuckyHow to Talk to Girls at PartiesThe Day the Saucers CameSunbirdInventing AladdinThe Monarch of the GlenMost of these I listened to from the audio version, narrated by Gaiman himself. I think that endeared me to some of the stories even more than if I’d read them myself. Gaiman is a great voice actor and he really drew me into his stories. I’ll review my favorites below:A Study in Emerald was a nice throwback to a Sherlock Holmes story. Lestrade seems omniscient at times and I enjoyed hearing him tell of how he came to his conclusions.October in the Chair was wondrous to me and lovely. It baffles me how Gaiman comes up with some of the ideas for his stories. Who else would have thought to have the months sitting around talking and sharing stories? It’s really quite beautiful in its elegance. An excerpt from the story: October was in the chair, so it was chilly that evening, and the leaves were red and orange and tumbled from the trees that circled the grove. The twelve of them sat around a campfire…. “Your turn in the chair next time,” said October. “I know,” said November. “I like your stories. Mine are always too dark.” “I don’t think so,” said October. “It’s just that your nights are longer. And you aren’t as warm.”Bitter Ground was an interesting story of a wanderer of sorts who has decided to give up his life. He stumbles upon a new life to lead, taking the place of a fellow that seems to have disappeared. He winds up in New Orleans where he meets some strange people.Other People was really odd. I had no real idea where it was going, nor did I really like it, until the very end. Then it seemed brilliant. “Time is fluid here,” said the Demon.Keepsakes and Treasures had me intrigued, more for the narrator in the story than anything else. He seems almost amoral, but he drew me in just the same. He’s basically a thug for hire for Mr. Alice, a rich-beyond-belief man with a taste for the extravagant. Mr. Alice, and indeed the narrator, I believe, show up in a couple stories in the anthology, which made me smile.Harlequin Valentine was odd and fun. On Valentine’s Day, Harlequin gives his heart to a woman, literally. It seems he’s normally a trickster, who loves to play pranks on people, but once he’s given his heart away, playing tricks lacks the thrill that it used to hold for him. I love the twist that the story takes when Harlequin’s desire guesses who he is and decides what to do with the heart. The Problem of Susan was a fun story as it is a tangent off the Chronicles of Narnia. We come upon Susan in her later years where she is dreaming of fantastical places.Goliath was a lot of fun. It’s an expansion on the "Matrix" type of world. Interesting how a lifetime can fly by in 20 minutes.I love The Day The Saucers Came. It’s really a short little poem, but very fun, and made even better by the way Gaiman read it (in the audio version).Sunbird was a little odd at first. It’s a story about the Epicurean Club, who’s goal it is to taste everything edible on the planet. They’ve come to the conclusion they’ve tried everything and there’s nothing else to try. Then, it's suggested they try the Suntown Sunbird. The rest of the story follows them traveling to Suntown to track down and eat the Sunbird….and what happens to them when they do.The Monarch of the Glen is an offshoot of the American Gods novel. It was an interesting story and really makes me want to pick up American Gods to learn more.

A collection of short stories I loved and replaced by the Kindle version for space. I love Neil Gaiman and find his style very unique. He writes many different genres, but usually there is some kind of fantastical or mythological element. The stories are not long, and you can read over time, a story at a time, if you wish. His characters are generally fleshed out, but sometimes the fantasy element plays a bit more of a focus than the character development. Still, he often uses twists or unique ideas. A great storyteller I recommend to everyone. He really has written something for everyone.

A little uneven. I found a few stories and poems tedious, but most of them are very inventive. I will read more of his writings. It is definitely not formulaic.Only one of the stories that I have read so far had explicit sexual content; it was integral to the plot.I read this book right after reading one by Patricia Bear. Had I read Gaiman's book following one by a mediocre writer, I probably would have given Gaiman 4 stars.

Another rather bulky collection of short stories and poems by Neil Gaiman. Since I have read all his other collections, there was a little overlap here, I think I have read maybe 5 or 6 of these stories in other books. Like his other collections, this will be a mix of things great and things good, and then some things that are merely OK. What got me was the complete randomness of the stories; this book, much more than his others, seemed to be really thrown together, almost like Neil went to his "story vault" and started just pulling anything and everything that hadn't been published up to this point and threw it together. To his defense, he includes a little blurb section at the beginning, explaining the significance of each story and why and when he wrote it (which was actually quite a nice touch), but it became a pain to go back and forth on the kindle, so about halfway through I stopped reading the explanations anyway, because I could see the trend, basically, when you are a writer of Neil's caliper, you get a lot of requests to write stories from many different sources, and once you have enough, if you really want readers to read them all you need to publish them in a collection, or let them be forgotten. There are some really great stories in here, namely: 'A Study in Emerald', 'Closing Time', 'Bitter Grounds', 'Harlequin Valentine', 'The Problem of Susan', and 'How to Talk to Girls at Parties'. The book is almost worth it just to read 'A Study in Emerald, which is a fantastic mix of genres story, including Sherlock Holmes, Cthulhu Mythos, Dracula, and Frankenstein (and probably a few more I missed). Pretty good read, with a little skimming.

I've read this book before, in paperback, but got the soft copy for a much-needed re-read. Love Neil Gaiman, and the stories in Fragile Things do not disappoint. Especially love the follow-up to American Gods. Every so often I miss Shadow, miss the mysteries, and the story in Fragile Things brings me back to the world of the gods. The other stories, poems, thoughts in Fragile Things are good, too. Typical Neil Gaiman taking you into the worlds just beneath the surface of our own.

Excellent book about the Filippino culture and what to expect when you visit or move to this beautiful country and its very warm people. Bought another copy of this book for a friend who will be working in the Manila area for a couple of months starting in June and has never been there before.

Very good read and down to earth experiences

Lots of good information regarding the history of the Philippines and proper etiquette.

like this

One of many guide books I read before I travel there. I found it helpful and interesting.

Didn't check date of publication, and disappointed that it wasn't more update. Didcover many of my questions.

The Philippines- Culture Smart! book is intended for the American or Western business traveler only. It only provides guidance for social and business interactions with a short term visit in mind. I find it amusing that the book attempts to give advice for the expatriate business traveler, but there is no way that this book is sufficient, even for a brief visit. As very quick guide (1 - 2 hour reading) for the first time traveler, on a very short trip, this book may help you avoid any hideous cultural mishap, but as for insight into the Pilipino culture, it is definitely lacking. I would recommend the Culture Shock! Book or the Insight book instead for those seeking the next level.
