If you want to start investing in a smart way, the book is a great read, even for nonaccountant.

I have been analyzing financial statements for decades and I have found this book to be a very useful resource indeed. The book is divided into four parts.They are: Reading between the Lines, Basic Financial Statements, A closer look at Profits, and Forecasts and Security Analysis. The narrative is written in plain English, MBA not required for interpretation, and the material is relevant to credit analysts and securities analysts.If your looking for a functional and useful guide to financial statement analysis, this book will fit the bill.

I use this book in my lectures Fundamental Analysis and Valuation for postgraduate students. It is very good supplement to the traditional valuation literature. Not only does it provide a healthy dose of theory in a readable format, but it also offers an abundance of examples. As such the book fully deserves its subtitle. A recommended read for anyone interested in financial statements and finance.

If you know nothing about financial statements, this should not be a book of your choice - it expect you to know basic meaning of financial statement figures. But it helps you to see reality behind the statement and the intentions of its issuer. Armed with knowledge and many real-world examples this book provides, you won't be fooled by clever accounting tricks managers employ to boost their compensations and achieve cheep capital for their companies. Must-read of every value investor.

Janice once again (read her first book) bravely bares her soul in this book. She is a bit snarky at times and is proud of some things I would never do or admit to. But by revealing the mistakes she has made along the way she is trying to help others avoid the pitfalls. This is a brave effort on her part.

I really enjoyed "No Lifeguard on Duty" Dickinson's pre ATNM book. But "Everything about me is Fake" was an irritating bore. Dickinson as usual distorts facts and timelines but this time with absolutely no to resemblance to reality. She shaves off ten years here and ten years there in most of her recollections. She gives the reader the impression that she isn't capable of remembering when things happened or if they really happened at all. Her accounts of her life in her first book were extremely exaggerated yet seemed to contained kernals of truth. This time around her recollections are too distorted to be believable. She never tires of portraying herself as either the victim, the unattainable siren or the perfect mother. Her tale gets old fast. In one episode she says she met Julia Roberts at a lavish party, she says in the 80's, right after Julia filmed her documentary about oranguetangs. Hello, Julia Roberts filmed that in 1998. She wasn't even a big star in the 80's. Petty criticism, maybe. But I like to think the author has some grip on reality. As one who actually watched her Dr. Phil episode, which Janice's details, I found her account laughable and scary. No, the audience didn't applaud her like she was at a Stones concert. In fact when she said she was "perfect" they began to laugh. No it was not a PSA to young women but maybe one for the damage that drugs can cause the brain. It was truly cringe-worthy. Her descriptions of her encounters with John Lennon, President Reagan and Barbra Streisand were surreal. Maybe she met them but I highly doubt what she says happened actually did. Maybe these are inconsequential grievences for some but they completely eroded her credibility for me. While "Lifeguard" was interesting filled with glimpses of the modeling world in the 70's and 80's, "Everything" is more of an homage to the wonderfulness of Ms. Dickinson. I was hoping for interesting tibits about Ms. Dickinson's life with her new found ATNM fame. There are some, like her compatibility with Kimora Lee Simmons. However they are overshadowed by her constantly reminding the reader of the fabulousness of Janice. Which is all well and good in moderation. I always thought Janice was fabulous. I don't know who she wants to convince more, the reader or herself. I am flabbergasted that her editor didn't rein her in, even a tad. I used to be a great fan of Ms. Dickinson's growing up but this book has shown that her rebound success on ANTM has warped her brain even more than it already was. I don't think I'll be purchasing the third installment.

I bought this kindle book on a sale day. It was worth every penny and I'd read her others too.

she is such a riot

If you read her first book, No Lifeguard on Duty, this will be just as much of a treat. She delivers advice and details about her life in her typical blunt, ballsy, take-no-prisoners style. You'll laugh more reading this book than her last, because her first was more soul-searching through the most painful moments of her life, this book takes a more light-hearted look at how her life has been since the first one, how being a judge on America's Next Top Model has affected her, and how being a full-time mother and supermodel hasn't slowed her down one bit.She truly speaks from the heart and from experience. Janice gives it to you straight, whether you like it or not. No apologies. Yet she lets her vulnerable side shine through, like when she talks about her children, her family, etc.She also gives good advice to women about how the fashion industry is selling us all lies with their airbrushed and digitally enhanced images of perfection(not a shock, right?). She really helps put it all in perspective.If you're looking for a warts-and-all look at how a supermodel's life REALLY is, this is the book. Also read her first book, once you try Janice, you've GOT to go back for more!

This is an autobiographical work in which the self-absorbed author likes to refer to herself as the world's first super model. Well, Suzy Parker, Twiggy, and Jean Shrimpton may well take umbrage at that, as they were super models who preceded Ms. Dickinson. Better looking and classier, they leave this author eating their dust.This book is mildly amusing, at first, as the author cattily takes jabs at her former lovers, naming names. Let me tell you, Mick Jagger and Sly Stallone do not fare too well in this book. In general, the author talks about men in such a derogatory way that, if men were talking about women in this way, they would be called sexist.The author routinely engages in trash talk, and some of it is acerbically funny. Yet, so often is it repetitious that it begins to pall on the reader. A more shallow, vain, and self-absorbed woman than the author would be hard to find. It is no wonder that she is unable to have long-term relationships, as she seems so one-dimensional.Still, her book is a no-holds-barred look at her life and the wacky world of modeling, as well as the lengths one needs to go to stay on top of one's game. There is little enjoyment to be had from this book, and a measure of boredom will eventually seep in, as the author repetitively drones on and on about herself. The book is replete with photographs, which show the author in varying stages of her career, including before and after her breast implants.

This woman is a has been. Not very funny. I'm not impressed.

Sometimes timid, video game loving Hector gets his turn to shine when he runs for class president against the bully Milmoe in this ninth Lunch Lady graphic novel adventure. I have every book in this funny series because they are loved by the students I tutor, and the truth is they delight me just as much. They are great for enticing children who are struggling with reading to spend more time on the page and they foster a love of books--always a good thing, but especially so for students who will benefit from improving their reading skills. They are not easy readers with a limited vocabulary but that is a plus, and I use them with students from first through seventh grade. Every page has text on lively comic book style pictures in shades of yellow, black and gray. There are strong female characters, crazy cool gadgets, crime solving lunchroom ladies, and three best friends--one girl, two boys--who help solve every mystery. Maybe best of all, the ending of this ninth book makes it obvious there will be a tenth outing for the Lunch Lady and her gang.

I've been passing 'Lunch Lady's around the 3rd and 4th grade at my school this year and they've been hugely popular. They're quickly paced, funny, and unique - they've been popular with my heaviest readers all the way to my most reluctant.Consider "the Video Game Villain" a treat for the kids who enjoy the series the most. For the most part, the series has been a 'Baddie of the Week' collection - a new threat to the school appears, hijinks ensue (and they are fun hijinks!), and in the end the baddie is put away. A nod to the next story is usually included, but otherwise each story sits by itself. All questions answered.Over time, the universe for the school has gotten richer, with extra students and new faculty premiering and then becoming regulars in the next issues. It has been fun watching the school grow larger and larger, even if the new characters don't do all that much. That might be changing now...There are a few unexpected surprises that pop up in this book, and Krosoczka doesn't answer them. Characters return who were thought to be finished. The ending was a shock. The "Video Game Villain" sent me running right back to the previous books to guess what might happen, and it's already gained approval from the two students I slipped it to today.The story itself is similar to the previous eight; Lunch Lady takes on a new threat. In the other story, Hector runs against Milmoe for Student Body President. It's the touches outside the main stories that make this issue so exciting - the next volume is scheduled for December and that's just so far away!

I bought a bunch in this series for my class library but the humor I find in Baby Mouse and the Squish series just isn't there. They were popular in the school library but I didn't find them that engaging as far as purchasing and reading these in comparison with some of the other series I bought. Good concept but needs to be funny!

My 7 yo (and his 4 yo brother for that matter) loves this whole series! Graphic novels have been the best bet for getting him more interested in reading, but Lunch Lady has been transformative! They are completely unrealistic but hilarious humor about this super heroine lunch lady...for my boy, none of these books could be any better. This book is the latest and my kids couldn't be more excited Santa brought it! Woo-hoo!

This series definitely reaches in my top 5 favorite series. It is mixed with action and simply funny puns sometimes. And video games being my favorite thing to do, this book is amazing. Please read this series.

"Destino" was not "completed" until half a century later, years after both Disney and Dalí had died, and released by the Disney Company in 2003.Among Pallant's more nuts-and-bolts failings: the consistent misspelling of the last name of Disney animator Ollie Johnston as "Johnson," and a base reliance, in order to spice up his text, on outlandish statements by the discredited Disney "biographer" Marc Eliot. Pallant also indulges in the odd sophomoric device of ending each chapter with a section labeled "Conclusion" And he is especially proud of having concocted the term "Disney-Formalism" which he insists on using in place of the standard, more comprehensible expression "Classic Disney.""Demystifying Disney" is based on Pallant's doctoral thesis, and one can understand why he would wish to see it published in order to advance his career. It is, however, hard to forgive his PhD advisor at Bangor University (across the pond in North Wales) for giving the thesis his blessing, and harder still to forgive Pallant's publisher, Bloomsbury, for foisting this dog's lunch of so-called scholarship off on an unsuspecting public. The overblown and intellectually dishonest, incestuous praise from Pallant's colleagues in British academe, is particularly appalling. Or should we say, "mystifying"?

Thank whomever for printing this in a non-standard size. I've got a narrow cabinet at the end of the counter real estate that all the regular size ones drip over. I was able to get a Wegman a couple of years ago for the same reason. Last year the only one I could find was flamingos. Now, I love flamingos; they are so goofy, but Wegman's Weimaraners have long held a special place in my heart.

I have been buying these calendars for the last 10 years. I love them. I buy the adult dog one, and the puppy ones. Great photography...great ideas...and these dogs perform! I highly recommend them.

The pictures are fun and playful. Wife used to have a Weimaraner for a pet and these are cute reminders.

I buy W. Wegman's calendar every year, since I saw it the first time. His pictures made me love the Weims and I have one too, crazy Obby.

Wonderful as usual. I buy it every year. Not disappointed!

I was delighted, heartbroken and dumbstruck over the contents of these pages! I was thrilled with Mr. Dell'Olio when he made the leap to leave the comfort of San Francisco, then terrified for him as he was trapped in that first horrible storm. I was crestfallen at what appeared to be the loss of his dream, then elated at the start of the rescue attempt of the Sogno. I felt I was on that rocking boat with him as his partner wiped the blood from his eyes in the dinghy, in mortal fear he’d not be able to secure the engine or get Mario on board. Most importantly, I was inspired by this tale of overcoming overwhelming odds and triumphing in the face of adversity. Coming About: Life in the Balance is written in the tradition of Jon Krakauer's books Into the Wild or Into Thin Air, and if you like those or Adrift by Steven Callahan, you'll love this book. Buy two because you're going to want to give the other copy to that friend with a boat!!

I heard the story first-hand from Mario and Jim when my husband and I went sailing with them one afternoon. We both were riveted and exclaimed that their story would make a wonderful book! And, it IS a wonderful book!The book is very well written and captures and holds your attention from the first page. I recommend this book to anyone. It is completely appropriate for all age groups and readers.

I picked up this book after reading another review, and planned to read it over vacation. While waiting for a friend to arrive I began the first chapter. Three hours later, I had tears in my eyes as I read the last page, wishing for just one more piece of the author's life puzzle. Every chapter brought back memories of my own life's journey, it's ups and downs and twists and dives, and then would hit that emotional, sensitive part of my being that very few authors can touch. Bravo to Mario Dell'olio, please bring us on more of your life's adventures!

I read this compelling book in one sitting...Couldn't put it down. The author chronicles his personal and professional journey punctuated by compelling images of his search for an idealized life in a Caribbean "paradise". He embarks upon a voyage with his longtime partner and encounters multiple, life threatening challenges. This remarkable partnership, their resilience and continued devotion in the face of adversity is nothing short of inspirational. Their imagined paradise is not all that they hoped for, but it is clear that their ideal life is located not on an island, but within the loving safety of their relationship.

At times, it made me feel so nervous that I had to put it down for a few minutes 😊. An amazing story told so well, makes you feel like you’re there. Perseverance, strength and so much love. Highly recommended.

Although I knew that Mario and Jim survived to tell the tale, with each crisis I was left hanging in the balance! I had to put the book down and take a break. I limited the time that I read. I got so excited and so tense, and extremely happy each time that they survived a trial, that I was tired at the end of the episode.Extremely well written; engaging and exciting.So glad that you survived!

Novelist Kincaid tells of her journey into the foothills of the Himalayas in search of rare plants to bring home to her Vermont garden. For Kincaid, everything on this trip—eating, sleeping, bathing—requires more effort than usual and sometimes even instills anxiety. Kincaid's details of meals and sleepless nights do grow tedious, and it isn't clear if the author is glad she decided to accompany her botanist friends on their trek, considering the constant threat of leeches and, much worse, the not unlikely (as she portrays it) possibility of losing her life at the hands of anti-American Maoist guerrillas ("Nothing could be more disturbing than sleeping in a village under the control of people who may or may not let you live"). Kincaid's fear never abates: "At some point I stopped making a distinction between the Maoists and the leeches." Occasionally, however, she is overcome with the beauty of the night sky, pilgrim destinations such as a sacred lake in Topke Gola, or the abundant flora, particularly "rhododendrons that were not shrubs, but trees thirty feet tall." This is a lovely book which beautifully describes an extensive trek in a remote area of the Himalayas. Ms. Kincaid and her close friend, Dan Hinckley, a distinguised botanist, make the trip together. Dan Hinckley has traveled in the region extensively. It is the author's first Himalayan trek and she trains diligently to be prepared for its rigors. The author is a gifted writer who describes the feelings and emotions triggered by the beauty of the region and its warm and hospitable people. Ms. Kincaid's style is most engaging and includes wonderful description, humor, and great senstivity. The focus of the trek is the collection of seeds for propagating Himalayan plantlife in North America. The passion of the participants for gathering the seeds of rare species is engaging to gardeners and non-gardeners alike. All who have journeyed to this special part of the world, or intend to, will enjoy this charming book.

Stay away from this book! Jamaica Kincaid's book is filled with pseudo-philosophy and hollow observations towards life which reads artificial. As someone who has trekked the Himalaya, I can only surmise that Kincaid was on some shallow, self-absorbed trip of her own. Don't just take my word for it, read just one of her own passages (pages 27-28): "One group was from Austria but we decided to call them the Germans, because we didn't like them from the look of them, they were so professional-looking with all kinds of hiking gear, all meant to make the act of hiking easier, I think. But we didn't like them, and Germans seem to be the one group of people left that can not be liked just because you feel like it." She can't even be bothered to learn the name of one of the Sherpas who helped carry her provisions, and instead refers to him as "Table" since he was also responsible for setting up the table where her and the other hikers ate. Giving him this demeaning nickname as you would a dog gives you some idea as to the type of person Kincaid is. Save yourself a few bucks, there are far, far better books to read about the Himalayas.

How can a book about a fervent gardener going to Nepal NOT be interesting? When so much of a modern person's life is focused on enhancing their level of coziness it's surely a delight to see someone like the author endure deprivations and take on extraordinary physical challenges towards a lovely goal. Really, who among us wouldn't prefer reading about tent-camping in a soggy field filled with leeches than experiencing it?The goal is to acquire seeds for plants that will survive and thrive in a Vermont garden. The reader feels the author's delight in seeing a flower that's humdrum at home come to full, enormous, technicolor life in a tiny, remote Nepalese village. Even a person whose interest in gardens plummets after sniffs of basil can understand the author's tremendous joy.Which leaves us with the odd, starting with the stilted syntax. It's part eighteenth century, part Hemingway, part Book of Genesis rewritten into the first person singular. She sems to take contrarian pride in being rather a pill on the trip--continually asking the others in the group, "What is this?", losing interest completely if the answer involves a plant that wouldn't cope in Vermont, and--why not?--a fair amount of whining. If the author regrets taxing her companions so on an already arduous journey she stoically keeps that sorrow to herself.Then there are the perplexing Where Was the Editor? bits. Once you establish that you're using Fahrenheit there's really no need to add it to every following temperature. She'll repeatedly describe what was for dinner and quickly tell us she didn't eat. And did every night's trip to the bathroom need to be recorded?Lastly, it isn't a moral stain that the author refers to the Nepalese man who cooks for the group as Cook, or the man who lugs the table and chairs as Table, but man, it sure would have been nice if she could have remembered their names. And as the author doesn't hear the porters' names is she really, truly seeing the Nepalese girls, each one of which she declares beautiful?None of the apparent cross-cultural hiccups would mind if the trip in and of itself didn't scream of First World class privilege. Despite the loveliness of the idea, aspects of the book come across as just another example of the West's determination to Get What it Wants--be it South American bananas, Iraqi oil, or perhaps the seeds is a lovely flower in the Himalaya.

A wonderful book: I'm reviewing it because I'm astounded by the other reviewers' complaints. I've just read it and it's now on the list to assign next time I teach an intro-to-college-lit course called "Literary Journeys". But don't let that put you off. Read it for sheer pleasure.Kincaid's style is sassy, clear, and carries just a whiff of Gertrude Stein--lucid, witty, and delicious. Her alleged whining is not only admirable self-mockery, it's a subtle and effective rhetorical move. (We sympathize, we laugh, we are won over by her honesty, we learn some things about perseverance and about human nature.) And I'm struck by the way she intertwines a savvy awareness of the political issues travel writing labors under in this nutty century with an as-if-innocent enactment of those very problems. I mean: she knows, and makes sure we know, that she is an outsider come to gaze and sample and enjoy, while the people she is staring at carry on their sometimes-difficult lives. But she pulls it off without preaching, and persuasively.Be warned: the book may require you to think beyond superficial impressions. (For example: when the author lays out before us some less-than-ideal behavior of her own, do we pounce and cry "aha" or do we admire the artful and, well, educational self-critique?) But Among Flowers will reward you with the beauty of its language, the skill and interest of ts narrative voice, and the way you'll learn--right, not about what an anthropological report might teach you but--about what what it is that travel writers (and their readers) do.
